May 8, Day +12

We are another day farther in our journey.  Hunter's new WBC is 0.55.  It has almost doubled from yesterday's number.  That's exciting news!  His doctor is very pleased with his rapid growth of cells.

Today his new port sight is starting to look red.  PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, pray that we don't have another infection.  The nurses took a culture, and we started a new antibiotic just in case.  It was a major bummer in an otherwise good day to get this news.  The prospect of Hunter having to get another surgery or cut is not ideal right now.  We are simply going to give this matter over to God to take care of.

His mouth and throat have both improved today as well.  Hunter has been able to drink without pain, and this evening had an entire soup and some cheesecake.  It has to feel better to consume some calories and get some nutrients in his system.  The last four days have been a lot of popsicles, ice cream, and nothing.

Hunter's sense of humor has also returned.  If I nagged him about anything, he would just reach up and pull a chunk out of his hair.  After a few times, he definitely had a spotty look going on his head.  Lots of his hair has been falling out on his pillow and getting everywhere.  He decided just to shave the rest off.  We knew this was coming, and it's much easier to see when you know his counts are coming up.  I don't think he looks all that different than his first buzz.  Better to laugh than cry, right?  It will grow back.
He thought he was real funny....chemo humor?
Benton had a big day.  Uncle Chase came and picked him up and he went fishing with Mr. Todd.  They really got into the fish, and he caught 5.  He was pumped.  It looks like he's plenty wet.  We are so glad that there are lots of good guys to step in and do daddy things with him while we are gone.

Happy boy with a lap full of minnows.  Gross.

I just love this video of Benton.  He is just so excited when he sees his big fish.  I'm pretty sure it's bigger than what his Daddy has caught on his last several trips to the lake:)

We are really praying hard that Hunter's port will look and feel better tomorrow.  There has been mentions of making it to the RV in the not too distant future, so an infection would obviously delay those plans.  Thanks Team Hanner, for taking the time to keep us encouraged with your cards, packages, texts, phone calls, facebook post, and messages.  It is so reassuring to us to know that we have an army praying for Hunter and his new baby cells!
