May 12, Day +16 ENGRAFTMENT DAY

Today we heard the news we've been waiting and hoping to hear since we arrived here in Houston and started Hunter's bone marrow transplant.  His WBC today was 1.5 and our Dr. told us that he is OFFICIALLY ENGRAFTED.  Tomorrow they will do a DNA test to make sure that the cells are donor cells, and also a test to check the function of his white blood cells.  We are thrilled.  Please pray that we get perfect results tomorrow!  Crazy to think that this time last week he was sitting at zero.

The wonderful news made it a lot easier to spend Mother's Day apart from our guys.  We have been gone from them almost a month.  They are thriving and loving the extra time spent with Honey and Poppa, and the rest of our family.  I am especially grateful for my mom today, and that she is willing and able to drop everything and move into our house to be Mommy while I'm away.  I've learned so much about being a mom from her.

We got to text the good news to Jana this morning.  There was a willow tree that we found called Angel of Freedom.  It just seemed appropriate that today we were set free from CGD!  It was only a small gift, but one that we will always remember!

 While nothing could touch the gift of engraftment, I'll still go ahead and take the Coach wallet Hunter ordered me.  How awesome is he that he thought of me feeling so terrible.

 Since we're almost to the point of leaving the hospital, we decided to get the RV ready for him.

 Hunter doesn't have any appetite.  At all.  We will have our work cut out for us to get him to eat.  But, we will do our best.

Right now the plan is for a PICC line tomorrow when we can get fit in by a doctor in radiology.  Please pray for a perfect placement, and that we can get the blood results that show our donor cells have taken over!
