Today hasn't gone exactly how we had hoped. We noticed that Hunter's port was draining, and sure enough it had some infection on the surface. Thankfully, he was started yesterday on an extra antibiotic yesterday for the sores on his face. That should help keep the infection under control.
This isn't anything out of the ordinary for the bmt floor. They work very hard to keep them sterile, but when you are immunosuppressed infections just happen. His doctor called this a little hurdle. Our anxiety level has certainly been a little higher today. We were wanting Hunter just to keep on cruising without complications. He had a much better appetite and felt pretty good yesterday, so we hate it for Hunter that he hasn't been able to eat today and now has to recover from another surgery. He will be sore tomorrow.
We do have an answer to prayers today. Hunter's liver is enough better that he will be getting his little shot of chemo that was scheduled on day +3. While I don't completely understand why they want to give these little doses of chemo, they are supposed to help fight graph vs. host disease. We are thrilled that he can continue on the protocol designed for him.
Prayer warriors, please join us in praying for protection from infection, and for his cells to kick in and start producing. We are wanting to get this infection behind us soon!
