We survived our first half year with twins! Hunter and I are so blessed by ALL our little guys. We think they just get more cute and precious every day. Here's a few things we're up to at 6 (really and a 1/2) months:
Caleb: 17.2 lbs (25th%)25.25 inches long (25%)
- He is such a flirt. Caleb just waits for someone to look at him so he can smile back. His little dimple is just adorable.
- Caleb loves his bed. He sings and sings, sucks his thumb and his blanket, rolls over on his tummy, and is happy as a clam. He fights and fights when we try and rock him to sleep, like at church.
- He LOVES to jump. He goes nonstop in his johnny jump up or when he's on your lap. Caleb is just a little ball of energy.
- We've had a few veggies this month. Carrots, sweet potatoes, and squash were popular. Green beans, avocados, and peas were not. You drew the short straw if you have to feed Caleb. He barely opens his mouth and it takes forever to get him to eat his tiny little bites.
- Speaking of real food...it has not been kind to their digestive systems. It's been blow out city at our house. Caleb joined his brother in wearing size 3 diapers. I've gone back to my trusty Huggies supremes with their elastic band across the back that helps keep poop contained inside more often than not.
- Caleb sits on his own pretty well. I still prop a pillow behind him if I'm not right there, but he loves to sit up and play. He has started to tuck his legs under him when he's on his tummy. He will be our first crawler, but hopefully not anytime soon.
- I think we've tried every bottle and nipple under the sun, but Caleb just doesn't love a bottle unless he is starving. That doesn't stop us from leaving them most every Saturday night for a date. Thanks Nana, G-Daddy, Honey, and Poppa for saving our sanity on many an occasion!
Clayton: 19.4 lbs (75%)
17.25 in (75%)
- Clayton is our sweet chubby boy. He is happy and smiling the majority of the day. He usually only is grumpy when he's tired.
- He has worked hard for his physique. Clayton is a good eater, opening his mouth like a little bird. He would eat his share of the food, plus Caleb's if I'd let him. Peas and green beans make him gag, but I'm working on getting him to eat them by mixing it with foods he likes. Hopefully we will get loving all our veggies soon so we can move on to some fruits.
- Clayton is a very content baby. That sounds better than lazy, right? He sits up for a while, but makes no effort to roll. If there isn't anything within arms length, he will sing in his low voice, grab his toes or his fingers. He's extremely ticklish and giggles with excitement when you blow bubble or kiss his fat cheeks. I'm pretty sure his thighs are bigger around than my biceps.
- We moved our baths to the big tub recently because Clayton was creating such a mess. He splashes and splashes. It doesn't bother him in the slightest to get his face and eyes wet.
- The first thing everyone notices about Clayton is his hair. He has a baby fro that sticks up all on its own about 2 inches. He reminds me of his cousin Ben at this age because they had the same hairdo.
Mother's Day out is going pretty well. They take pretty short naps at school and are so exhausted that they sleep two or three hours when they come home. Pretty good deal if you ask me. Both boys love their big brother. They think Benton is just about the funniest thing. It makes me so happy to see them all playing together.
We did some rearranging of our car. I did have their car seats side by side in the middle row of my suburban, with a seat folded down for Benton to climb in the back. It was getting to be torture on our backs to lift one seat into the middle of the car. I now have a row of car seats with Benton in the middle. I now refuse to carry them in their carriers if at all possible. They're just too heavy. I have a nice double stroller, and it's going to get a lot of use. Our backs are both feeling much better with the changes.
It's getting more difficult to nurse them at the same time. They are getting pretty big for my twins boppy. It goes fine for the first few minutes when they're hungry, but after that it's like alligator wrestling trying to keep them from rolling off the pillow. I sit either on the bed where a fall is cushioned, or in our oversized chair where the arms pin them in. Almost 40 pounds on my lap is starting to make my legs go to sleep too. The other morning Clayton was sitting his bottom on the bed, head resting on the pillow, still latched on. He's got talent.
I say it all the time, but these are such good babies! They still take a couple 2+ hour naps each day and a little catnap in the evening. They put themselves to sleep and play well on their own every morning while Benton and I eat breakfast together and tidy up the house. We are are on the go at our house, and they roll with it pretty well. They love their Honey and Poppa, Nana and G-Daddy, their GG's, and all their cousins and enjoy spending time at all their houses. They went to bible class for the first time Wednesday night loved it. We are blessed!
