We could not have been more ready for spring break at the Hanner house. The boys all love school, but to have no alarms or places to be has been glorious. It's been a perfect mix of fun in our pajamas and getting outside to enjoy the beautiful weather.
We started last weekend at the Rattlesnake roundup in Sweetwater. I had never been, and thought the boys would love it. Hunter was still getting over a sinus infection, so he passed. Erinn never turns down adventure, so we set out. It definitely had my skin crawling to watch all the snakes in a pit. They also were demonstrating milking the venom, skinning them, and educating about snake behaviors. Benton and Ernie volunteered to hold/get their picture taken with a live snake. No thanks! The people watching was pretty entertaining as well.

Benton was loving every second of this. He is all over anything animal related. |
These had me laughing so hard. It was all well and good, until it started tightening around her neck!
snake eggs |
stuffed snake that Benton really wanted for his room--absolutely not!! |
Clayton did come home with a snake head necklace. His chicken on a stick was delicious! |
Hunter's request.....a snake cane. He's so happy with it. Benton and Caleb came home with raccoon "back scratchers." Seriously, someone just chopped off the feet and glued them on a stick. They're sooooo gross. Mom of boys right here! |
We went on a little unplanned tour of Abilene trying to decide where to eat Sunday night. Clayton must have been worn out after all that rattlesnake fun:) |
Hunter and I got the boys laser tag guns for their birthday. They are begging to go outside and play as soon as we get home. OK by me!
One of the dogs brought up this baby bunny (unharmed). I had a really hard time saying no to this face who really wanted a pet bunny, but I have enough to do these days! |
"So close to Easter" this one said. Still no. |
The twins are new lego fans, and do a really good job putting them together themselves. They're getting so big! However, there isn't enough coffee in the world for me to help Benton with Erector sets.
Proud Caleb! |
Also on the boys' bucket list for Spring Break was getting out the jump house. Check! Bonus, Hunter and I got to have adult conversation while the kids wore themselves out. Winning!!
We drug ourselves out of the house at the early hour of 9:30 to meet a group at the zoo. It was nice and cool and all the animals were out and about.
Caleb is the type of kid to push limits, so he probably was thinking of reaching out to try and pet it here. |
We love our little zoo! |
On my to do list for spring break was to spruce up our yard. It got very little attention last year, so there was plenty of trimming and weeding. I also thought it would be fun for the boys and I to have a little garden. Hunter brought me home some big containers, and the boys helped me pick out some veggies to plant. We will see how this goes!
My kind of morning--coffee, pjs, no makeup, and reading books:) |
We took advantage of free art for kids at the Grace Museum downtown. The boys brought home some "masterpieces." |
Big brother actually inherited his daddy's talent for drawing. |
Love our little town and it's storybook statues! |
More building while mom drinks coffee. |
We also got to spend time with some of my out of town family. I should have taken more pictures, but we all loved my Uncle Mark's hairless cat. I'm not a cat person, but she was fascinating! |
Both the twins figured out how to climb up in our big mesquite tree. They're not my babies anymore! |
The kids finished out Spring Break by spending the night with Nana and G-Daddy. |
I was sad to see our break come to a close, but the boys were ready to see their friends. I did enjoy my quiet house and tried to get it back clean after they went to school Monday morning. To all my teacher friends, I love and admire you so much! We are on the home stretch until summer. It's hard to believe that we've been home from the hospital an entire year.
Here is the link to my blog post of last year's homecoming in spring break. It has been challenging and rewarding all at the same time. Hunter has improved from not being able to roll over himself in bed and confined to a wheelchair to trimming the trees with a pole saw this spring break. God has been faithful to us. While our life still isn't what we expected normal to be, we are thankful to be all home together! SB2016, you were good to us!
