Blogging from my phone tonight. Hunter has felt off the past couple days. Monday he came home from work really tired, and he had a terrible headache and really painful leg cramps all Monday night. This isn't all that unusual for him. His hard days have been much less frequent as of late, but we figured after a day of rest he would feel better.
He slept all day Tuesday, and I noticed that when he tried to walk he was very clumsy. His knees would lock and it looked very uncoordinated. He didn't feel like he could completely control them. We both thought he was maybe sore from all the cramps. But then he vomited. I made him call the transplant nurse on call and he also talked to his dr here in abilene. They wanted him to come get labs drawn in the morning.
His leg sensation wasn't any better, so I dropped Benton at school and took hunter to get bloodwork. After watching him walk, they knew something was up and started getting in touch with Houston. The decision was made that hunter needed a neuro consult, and to go to temple bc it was 3 hours closer than Houston. I dropped off the boys with Aunt E, we threw some stuff in a bag, and were to temple by 1:00. He was showing some symptoms of
guillian-Barr syndrome, and that can progress to breathing problems. Right when we got to the ER, they wheeled him right back to a room. Their computer system is down at Scott and White, so we have been pretty slow getting test results.
His blood tests have come back normal, his head CT and chest X-rays are clean as well. He is getting an MRI of his spine as I type. He isn't showing the progressive symptoms of Guillien-Barr so we are still searching for what is wrong. A lumbar puncture is probably next to test his spinal fluid. Hunter's transplant doctor in Houston is working with the team here to get to the bottom of his unusual symptoms. Hopefully we hear from neuro soon, since that's why we came.
We appreciate all the phone calls, text messages, and prayers for hunter. It is such a blessing to know we are covered in prayer. We have had doctor friends here checking in on us, delicious dinner has been delivered, and we have had multiple people offer to open their homes to us to stay. What a relief to know we aren't alone, even in a new hospital in a town we aren't used to. We covet your prayers once again for God's protection and healing for Hunter.
