First ER visit

We knew it was bound to happen with 3 boys, but it's never fun to visit the emergency room.  Caleb was fine when he went down for his nap Thursday.  We had friends coming over, and I was working on dinner when he woke up.  A few minutes later I went to get him, and was surprised to find him wheezing.  I gave him an ibuteral breathing treatment, and he got a little better.  A couple hours later he was coughing again during dinner, so I gave him another.  During this time, a storm blew in.

I put him to be as usual, but checked on him about 10:30.  He was making a high pitched rattle, was panting, and really struggling for air.  I gave him another treatment, and brought him for Hunter to listen.  After he didn't improve, we knew we had to get him some more help.  Hunter stayed with our other two, and I picked up mom on the way to the ER.  Mark and Jana met us there just before midnight.

Poor baby was looking at us with a panicked look in his eyes, gasping for air at this point.  Thankfully we got right back and attention from the staff very quickly.  They gave him some sort of breathing treatment that gave him a little temporary relief.  His chest x-ray was clear for pneumonia, and he was negative for rsv and the flu.  Those things made me feel a little better.  His oxygen levels were being monitored, and he wasn't able to keep those in a normal level when his oxygen was taken out of his nose.  We knew then we weren't going to be going right home.  After four attempts he got an iv started.  It was awful.  He was exhausted, but couldn't breathe enough to relax and go to sleep.  Finally, about 4:15 A.M. we got moved to a room on the children's floor.  He had just gone to sleep, but had to be woken to be evaluated there.  About 5:30 mom and I drifted off for a 30 minute catnap.

He felt pretty crummy that morning, put perked back up later that afternoon.  You could really tell when it was time for his next treatment.  He was getting the same meds that I give him at home, so it was a little frustrating being stuck at the hospital.  We unfortunately had to share a bathroom with the room next door, and the little girl was a screamer.  Like, all the time.  He got his oxygen out of his nose that afternoon, but they wanted to monitor how he did without it.  His second night was a peaceful night for him.  Honey and I actually got a little rest as well.  Caleb was his little charming self and won over all his nurses.  He had a smile on his face, despite all the poking and prodding he had to undergo.  Thankfully, we got to go home early Saturday morning.

Hunter held down the home front with the other two, and was so happy to see Caleb better.  He, Nana, and G-Daddy had cleaned the entire house top to bottom and had all the laundry done.  What a relief! I took a little nap before Hunter brought the other two home.  Caleb was happy to see his brothers and daddy!

We hope to stay away from hospital for a long, long time.  For real.
